Before You Drive Away¶

A quick walkthrough before you leave the pickup location or campsite. Do this every time you're about to tow. It takes five minutes and prevents the mistakes that actually cause problems on the road.

Hitch & Safety Chains¶

Confirm the ball is locked down, safety chains are crossed underneath the tongue (not straight), and the breakaway cable is clipped to your tow vehicle, not just looped over the hitch.

Disconnect Shore Power¶

Unplug the power cord before moving. Stow it in the dedicated storage compartment.

Retract the Awning¶

The awning must be fully retracted and latched before driving. Give it a tug after latching to make sure it's actually secure, not just resting closed.

Raise the Stabilizer Jacks¶

All stabilizer jacks need to be fully raised before moving. A jack left down even a few inches will get torn off the first bump.

Rear-View Camera¶

Use the built-in rear camera on your display while backing into or out of a site. Don't rely on mirrors alone for a trailer this length.

Tank Levels¶

Check the fresh, gray, and black tank levels before you leave. If gray or black are getting full, plan to dump before or shortly after you arrive at your destination. See the Bathroom & Tanks chapter for how.
